The success of the MIK platform is unprecedented. More than 45 bicycle brands are now associated with MIK. Three years after its introduction, this innovative luggage carrier system continues to expand the number of participating brands. And that means the greatest choice in the number of matching accessories. With MIK HD, child seats are the next step. What’s new and unique is that the renowned testing institute TÜV Rheinland has tested and approved the combination of MIK HD carrier, Urban Iki child seat and MIK HD adapter plate. The first Urban Iki child seats with MIK HD will be available from December. 

MIK HD: extra strong and safe

With MIK Heavy Duty (HD), the brand brings an extra strong and safe variant of MIK onto the market. Thanks to MIK HD, child seats can be easily and safely clicked onto – and off – the carrier. All other MIK accessories, such as panniers, also fit on the MIK HD carriers. -baskets and crates. And that means that with MIK HD, child seats and bicycle accessories can now be easily exchanged. For safety reasons, the child seats only fit in MIK HD carriers, not in MIK carriers.

MIK HD consists off:

  • The MIK HD carrier. An extra strong carrier which has been tested at 27 kg (EN 11243 and ISO 14344). The test process is new and has now been patented in Germany.  
  • The MIK HD-adapter plate. An extra-strong MIK adapter plate including a double fuse. The MIK HD adapter plate is pre-assembled under the child seat and is not available separately for safety reasons.

First and only platform with TÜV approval

TÜV Rheinland tested and approved the MIK HD together with Urban Iki rear seat. This makes the MIK HD the first and only platform in the world with this approval. The first Urban Iki child seats including a pre-assembled MIK HD adapter plate with this TÜV approval will be available from December 2020. Children’s seats from the Polisport brand will follow at the beginning of 2021.

MIK HD carrier adopted by various bicycle brands

The first bicycle brands have now incorporated MIK HD into a number of their models. This means easy and safe fixation of child seats on the carriers of Moustache, Qwic, Electric Bike Co., Riese & Müller, Merida and Gazelle. Other brands will follow soon.

  • Not all models of the brands mentioned are already available with the MIK HD. 
  • The regulations for transporting children on bicycles vary from country to country. The law of the country in which the bicycle is used is always guiding.
